It is one of the various criteria that the admission council looks at. However, a good GMAT® score does improve chances of admission.
Anybody can take the GMAT exam irrespective of their educational qualification.
The registration fee for taking GMAT® is USD 250. After the test, the test takers are asked to submit the names of 5 B Schools that they would like to send their scores to. This facility is part of the USD 250 fee that is charged for the test.

GMAT® is offered usually on all working days (i.e. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday). For more information, please visit www.mba.com
You can take the GMAT exam once every 16 calendar days and no more than five times in a 12-month period. You are only allowed to take the exam 8 times in total (lifetime limit effective December 17, 2016).
AWA section grades are from 0-6 in 0.5 increments. IR section is scored on a scale of 1-8 in 1 point increments. Quantitative score are from 0 to 60 (known as scaled score). However preferred score is between 51 and 98 percentile Verbal score are from 0 to 60 (scaled score). However, score above 45 is 99 percentile on verbal Total Score are from 200-800 in 10 point increments.
You will get your scores for the Math’s, verbal and IR sections the moment you finish the exam. However, official scores (with scores for the AWA section) will take 20 days to reach you.
Rescheduling more than 7 days prior to the original test date will cost you an additional USD 50. Rescheduling within 7 days of the original test date will cost you an additional USD 250..
